I recently passed a Shred-It® truck on my way to work and began to wonder if the company’s employees suffered a lot of papercuts.
I did; however, wonder how much it would cost to hire the truck for a personal shred-event. I have a lot of needless paper tucked away in various nooks and crannies in my home. Yes, I have considered tossing it in the trash; however, in today’s world, it’s too dangerous to toss personal paper anywhere. Therefore, I’ve decided that all I need is a big shredder truck that can easily make the paper go away.
I put the shred event on my to-do list and moved on to my soon-to-be-due discipleship article. Guess what! It turns out that shredding is good fodder for discipleship articles.
Some of us are guilty of hoarding stuff that we should have disposed of long ago. We have piles of unforgiveness, and stacks of pride tucked away in dusty places. There is no need to sort through these things because we know them all too well. In some cases, we have organized our stacks for easy retrieval. We know in our heart that we shouldn’t keep them, but we can’t help ourselves. We need God’s help to rid ourselves of spiritually unhealthy junk.
The good news of salvation through Jesus Christ alone is all we need to help release sinful clutter in our hearts. Thankfully, God does not treat us as our sins deserve...
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us ~ Psalm 103:11-12
Thus, we have a choice. We can continue clinging to spiritually unhealthy things or we can seek after the Godly life that only comes through Jesus Christ...
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ ~ 1 Peter 1:3-8.
We don’t need to hoard sin that God has already thrown away. All we need is faith in His unbelievable grace... Jesus shed his blood to shred our sins away. No more dumpster diving for us.
Hey, I have a crazy idea. Let’s host a community “Shred-Event” where people can come dispose of their unnecessary paper and we can tell them about the necessary Savior.
Remember this... you are loved, and you are always in my prayers.
