THE PROMISE OF SPRING

Spring!  Finally!  Or, as it is often referred to here in Texas, “The Pollening!”

There are so many events that mark the end of winter and the beginning of Spring here at church.  Most notably, of course, is Easter!  I am looking forward to the precious time we spend together each year as we commemorate His Triumphal Entry on Palm Sunday.  The sight of all the children entering the Sanctuary with palm fronds is sure to bring a smile to your face.  This year, Palm Sunday will also feature the kids serving as the Welcome Committee for the day!

The celebration slows on Good Friday.  We pause and remember the Lord’s Passion through a special service beginning at 7:00 pm.  “Were you there when they laid him in the tomb” are the last words we sing as we depart the sanctuary and wait for sunrise on the third day!

As the dark begins to turn to light, we gather here outdoors and begin our Resurrection Sunday celebration with a Sunrise Service!  The youth will have been in church all night for a lock-in and will have the coffee, pastries, and perhaps a little more ready for us as we arrive!  We will have our two regular services, 9:30 and 11:00 am, on Easter Sunday as well!

Beyond the religious events that signify the start of Spring, we have some fun events as well!  The annual Chili Cook-Off was held in March and was a great time!  Congratulations to all the winners!  We will also host the 2nd Annual Resurrection Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 9th.  This community event was well attended last year and features games, food, and Easter Egg hunts!  Everyone is invited!

New to this year’s schedule is the Gumbo Cook-Off.  On April 25th chefs from the church and the community will submit their gumbo to the judges to determine who cuisine reigns supreme!  The rest of us will then get to sample them all!  If this is anything like the Chili Cook-Off, it is going to be awesome!

There is so much going on it would be easy to miss the promise of Spring, the promise of the Resurrection.

"Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know—Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death because it was not possible that He should be held by it" (Acts 2:22-24).

He is Risen!  He is Risen, indeed!

    God bless, Pastor Rob
